The Birth of A New Song

    In 2000, Sr. Pastor Dick Humphries gave Associate Pastor, Kevin Smith the task of researching Contemporary Worship and the need for such a service at St. Paul’s.  As part of this mission Kevin Smith and Debbie Cuthbert traveled to Phoenix AZ to attend a conference on alternative worship at Community of Joy Church.

    Shortly thereafter, Rev. Smith put together a committee to create a contemporary service for St. Paul’s.  Committee members were Christy Cuthbert, Debbie Cuthbert, Mike Gibbens, Jana and Kevin Smith, Chuck Morgan, Rod Allen Payne, and Tracy Wyatt.

   After months of work the first service was held on April 22, 2001 with an attendance of over 125 people.

  With guidance from former pastors Kevin Smith, Donnie Wilkinson and Nancy Wofford, we have grown in numbers and spirit. The service has changed with each passing year, adding elements, especially new altar designs and multi-sensory elements whenever possible,  but has remained faithful to the idea of providing an, uplifting service where people of all generations can worship the Lord with joy.
